Nokia 7210 Supernova

http://www.knowyourmobile.in/siteimage/scale/300/2000/78290.png

Another day, another renumbered Nokia handset… I might even start this review with similar thoughts, but in order to preserve the sanity of our readers I will not question Nokia again about reusing the model numbers of their old, popular handsets. It is a fact, however that in the past two weeks this is the fifth Finnish gadget at us, we could say we have a dumping. The handset provided by XXL GSM came in a mid-sized box and so I could have thought that there is a mid-range handset inside, but no, 7210 is not such a phone, which has been made evident by the number of accessories: we only get a charger and a HS-105 headset with it. And air, lots of air, as half of the box is empty.

After I have unpacked the small phone I have put my hands together as I have received the blue one, not the bubblegum-pink (I am usually unlucky enough to get the feminine ones of such models). Right after this I have observed that the new Supernova is extremely small, it weighs 70 grams, its size is 106 x 45 x 10.6 mm, so it’s slim and graceful, it’s made for women’s hands. The materials used are quite okay, the grey plastic parts on the sides and the back are really great to touch and the gradient plastic around the display shines nicely until we touch it as it’s a real fingerprint-magnet.

On top of the front we can see the phone’s speaker and right under it there is a Nokia logo. Under these there is a 2-inch QVGA display, its quality is great, but the plexi above it seems extremely thin, I think it might break even in a more crowded bag, so we should take care. On the bottom we can observe the keypad and there is one simple word to describe it: terrible. At least it was for me, ladies with a 50-size ring might fare better at tapping the keys. The problem is that the there are plastic stripes between the lines and these are greatly embossed, so they obstruct us in pressing the keys. The plastics at these parts don’t seem very resistant anyway; I can’t imagine what would happen to them after pressing them with artificial nails for a couple of months.

The back is rather tasteful. There is no useless design element on it, on the top there is the 2 megapixel fix-focus camera which is also where we can see the engraved Nokia logo. The handsfree speaker is on the bottom, but the lots of wholes shouldn’t deceive anyone: it’s not stereo.

The 2.5 mm jack output is on the top, along with the protected microUSB connector and the small lock for taking off the back, while the charger’s connector is on the left. There is nothing at the other parts, only two design edges on both sides near the d-par, but these have no function. The neck-strap can be fastened to the lower left corner.
